Don’t miss this trip in Indonesia
Indonesia is much more than Bali
When I got back to mainland Bali it was a short time spent on dry land before I got on another boat to Lombok where my next one night stay was planned before going on a 7 day adventure.
When I was picked up at my hotel for the boat I right away met two girls who I started chatting with. They had also booked with Kilroy which got us talking about travelling. They decided to take a year before college to travel and it was perfectly normal where they were from. I think a gap year like that everywhere would be wonderful as a tradition.
We got on the boat to Lombok where we would spend one night in a hotel and picked up the next day by a bus.
It was very interesting to go from Bali, a mostly Hindu population, to a mostly Muslim population, but mostly because there were very few alcohol stores available. Alcohol is still served in most restaurants but if you want to take it on a trip you will have a hard time finding a store, at least without the help of locals.
The bus picked us up and drove us to the other side of the island, making a stop at a shop in the middle of nowhere where we could pick up some alcohol if we wanted, and then off to the pier to a wonderful sailboat that seemed to be cut right out of a period piece.
Seven days and six nights spent travelling to and from Flores, stopping on beautiful islands in between.
Travelling to a volcanic crater filled with salt water where you float in the water hearing all the birds around you, visiting the home of the majestic Komodo dragon, spending time on the pink beach and even visiting a small island where all you can find is a hammock and a hut that sells coconuts all while sleeping on the upper deck of a ship under the millions of stars.
This trip I met a very fun girl who actually got on the boat in Flores with her dive gear. She was a working Dive Instructor and had to get to her next job.
Of course a lot of the time anchored was spent snorkeling the crystal clear blue waters where again, unfortunately, there was so much trash.
You, dear reader, might have put it together by now but I hadn’t figured it out yet… But that exactly is why the journey is so important.
